Talkin’ junk!

Junk food is so awesome! As an adult (1) on a diet (2) with a 3-year old that looks up to me (3 strikes!) I shouldn’t say such things but we all know it’s true. M&Ms, potato chips, oatmeal raisin cookies, pretzels, oh joy! My inner fat kid loves them all and decided it would be even more rockstar if they all could be rolled into one.

Imagine this: an oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips and M&Ms. But wait! Fold in crispy potato chips and stamp each one with a salty pretzel and voila! Genius was born.

Super duper delicious! The delicate balance of sweet and salty make this junk food filled cookie everything that it is. The pretzel bite in the middle is the best part! A Black Tie Affair

Put on a suit. Better yet, wear a snazzy party dress. Okay, it’s cool; toss on some low-top Chuck Taylor’s (my personal shoe of choice). Though getting fancy for the occasion would be a nice touch but in the end it’s not necessary. This cake comes dressed to impressed.

 

The Tuxedo Cake – Three layers of chocolate cake meshed together with fresh strawberry filling, frosted with fluffy whipped cream icing and drenched in a soft milk chocolate ganache. But that’s not all: It’s trimmed with chocolate covered strawberries and topped with a bow.

Pretty darned classy right? This cake always makes a great conversation piece and never fails to draw attention. The ooohs and ahhhs are seemingly endless. No worries, I said seemingly. Once the cake is all divvied up (and trust me, it’ll go rather quickly), you’re lucky guests will soon stop talking…far too busy eating!

I’ve been an artist for longer than I’ve known what an artist was. I melted crayons as a toddler. I created chalk paintings in middle school. I danced as a teenager. College was a time of photography and tattoos. But after college, that’s when the magic really began: I baked.

I love my job. It truly brings me joy to show you the wonder I can build, especially when the result is something you’ve always wanted.  My delicacies are an expression of art to me. And nothing makes me happier than to share my art with you. Enjoy! And keep those orders coming!

Tick Tock!

The clock is ticking! Can you believe it? In one day, Valentine’s day will be here again. Red food coloring will go on sale, sprinkles will be available in an array of shapes and colors, chocolate is gonna be everywhere!  Oh, wait…isn’t that what the special day is for? Hmm, maybe not. But as a baker, that’s what I love about Valentine’s day.

All in all, today is a day for lovers. And, if you’re anything like me, you choose to show your lovin’ with a little something from the oven (I use that phrase way too much but it works!!). Lookie lookie!

The orders have been insane for these! Sugar cookies frosted in tinted royal icing in various expressions of love were delivered to doors all around the country (we’ve shipped them to NY and to LA. Can you say ‘global’?) And over the next day, there’ll be lots more where those came from.

Side note:

I don’t have a Valentine, or at least not a human one, though mine is somewhat of a living thing to me. My New Year’s Resolution was to treat my hair like the symbol of royalty that it is. So this year I vow my undying love to my ‘fro.

Red hot love!

January is ending, which means February is beginning. And February means Valentine’s Day! *sigh* Can you smell it? Love is in the air!

*sniffs again* Oh wait, maybe that’s the cheesecake I smell…

Then again, it’s only cheesecake on top. Underneath that delicious layer of red swirled cheesecake is an even thicker layer of red velvet brownies. You read that right: Red velvet brownies topped with red swirled cheesecake.

Pure Craziness!

Chocolate cake? Oreo frosting? Yellow candles? Is it my birthday already?

Seriously? Sheesh, time flies! Just when I get out of the holiday order rush, this comes along…and creates a whole new rush! It’s the cake so nice, I made it twice!

…okay, maybe thrice?

…make that frice — is ‘frice’ even a word? Eh, I’d rather keep the rhyme theme going than to find out the real alternative to saying ‘4 times’.

All in all, the point is it’s been pure craziness around here all thanks to the Chocolate Cookies and Cream cake. I’ve made 4 in the past week with the orders racking up daily. Have you ordered yours yet?

Cookie Exchange!

Around the holidays, many groups of friends get together to carry on a long-time tradition known as the cookie exchange. What is a cookie exchange? It’s an awesome event where people gather, bake their favorite cookie, and share them with their participating friends and family. Not only do you get the joy of giving cookies, you have the immense pleasure of receiving cookies, too! Some traditions even include a chance to swap recipes! Sweet!

Oh, wait…what if you don’t like to bake? Or can’t think of a cookie to give? As it goes with all things surrounding the oven (except for electrical maintenance and such), I can help with that. How about giving these out to your chums?

Two almond-based shortbread cookies lovingly held together by raspberry preserves go on to create the great raspberry linzer cookies, a Christmas classic. A close kin to the epic thumbprint cookie, these little darlings seem to be the main attraction for any holiday dinner dessert table. Want proof? Order a box and watch how quickly they’ll disappear!

And just in case you’re wondering: no, it’s not cheating to order your portion of your local cookie exchange from a bakery. After all, the rules dictate that you bring your favorite cookie. And if you’re anything like me, chances are your favorite cookie comes from my over-active oven 🙂

Got Tree?

With Christmas just around the corner, the streets are flooded with bright faced customers bundled in bulky coats and fuzzy sweaters searching for the perfect Christmas tree. I tend to drive by them in my warm car and wonder what all the fuss is about. Why pour into redesigned parking lots when you can be at home gathered around this:

There, isn’t that better? To think, you were likely going to spend your weekends driving to the country wracking your brain around how to tie an 8′ pine to the roof of your car using a few feet of twine. And after all the Christmas fun had faded, you’d have to throw it away with nothing to show for all that hard decorating work.

…or…you could stay cozy at home with your family gathered around an edible, fully decorated version of the beloved holiday decoration. Hand-assembled from chocolate-covered cake pops, this “tree” is an awe-inspiring centerpiece and a scrumptious after-dinner treat. Maybe even before dinner 😉

It’s beginning…

…to look a lot like Christmas, and these eggnog cupcakes are to blame. They smell fantastic and taste even better. It’s no wonder they’re our newest Flavor of the Month!

This exclusive flavor will only be available for the remainder of the month of December. A moist, fluffy eggnog cake topped with an eggnog & nutmeg infused cream frosting is sure to be a hit this holiday season.

Gather ’round the fire!

December is here already? That explains why it’s getting so incredibly cold outside. But, with my oven cranking around the clock, it’s much warmer inside. Who needs a fireplace when I’ve got an oven at 350 degrees? Seriously, hardly anybody looks forward to this time of year. Goodbye fall, goodbye Halloween, goodbye Thanksgiving, hello Christmas. Wait…hello Christmas?!?! Oh, joy! Christmas is just around the corner! Do you know what that means? Or at least what that means to a baking addict such as myself? *sniff sniff* There are such glorious smells that fill the air this time of year; it can only be one of two things…

#1 – Gingerbread!

Gingerbread men are a staple this season. Lovingly laced with ginger, cloves, allspice and more, these 6-inch soldiers will protect you from the harsh conditions just beyond your doorstep. And it doesn’t hurt that they come complete with the classic three red buttons 🙂

…or maybe #2 – Peppermint!

The cool smell of peppermint reminds me of the cool winds swirling across my window. The red and white colors definitely keep with the sense of the Christmas season. Chocolate cupcakes infused with the intense flavor and intoxicating aroma of peppermint deserve to be topped with the ever-so-appropriate whipped topping (and red sanding sugar just to help set the mood). How awesome would it be to come in from the cold and cozy up to a warm mug of peppermint mocha cupcakes? Yum…

Boy, these two make an awesome pair. Although, separating them couldn’t hurt. Either way, they’re a delicious addition to any winter night and another sweet treat coming from my kitchen to yours.
